On time conduct of reviews/assignments/projects
Please engage the students not only inside the college. Create interest towards projects and assign challenging problems.
Provide challenging experiments relating to your theory classes and real life world.
Create a “Learn by Doing” environment.
Encourage students to discuss among themselves about the topic.
Give proper feedback on assignments/project reviews
Important Note: Beware of Sexual harassment among students and faculties.
Q: Assessment Pattern is flexible or not?
A: Split up of marks is fixed
Q: Uncover Syllabus in terms of sending recorded videos to students?
A: Supplementary videos can be given
Don’t rush through the syllabus
Teach them all the basics very well. Ensure strong fundamentals are taught to them.
Don’t read through slides
Ensure that you communicate to all students. Use flipped classroom technology to engage students to learn before they reach the class.
Don’t be too extremist in research or in teaching. Be sure to be a good researcher and teacher, only then students get attracted to your lecture.
Students should attend the class in spite of the low attendance criteria being set by the management.
Our Vice President needs all the faculty to engage students in such a way that they are so inspired to attend the lecture with so much enthusiasm.
Innovative projects can be assigned to students.
Spoken English should be maintained strictly.
Be approachable to students all the time. Maintain regular communication with students.
Q: Regarding active learning, is the project component the only thing to be given?
A: Any assignments, real world problems can be given.
Q: Is there any restriction on the number of assignments and projects?
A:Two assignments and One Quiz is the pattern followed in VIT.
Two to three project component / semester subjects are available.
Q: Assignment Guidelines to be followed?
A: Case studies can be given, unique topics can be given as assignments. Two to three people can be combined and given case study/assignments/projects. Individual questions can also be given
Q: In curriculum what J indicates?
A: J - Project Component
Fully Flexible Credit System
In VIT, FFCS is followed.
The school offers a list of courses every semester and choice of subjects is completely done by the students. No. of courses is not fixed. Minimum 16 credits to be taken. Slot for the lab and theory is also chosen completely by the students. When to study?Which course to study?Which faculty? is the complete choice of students. Lab and theory with different faculties are also possible. For slow learners, the number of subjects is chosen by students. There are no arrears at VIT, Only after you pass out, it is called an arrear. Otherwise, he has to register for the course again in any of the upcoming semesters. Weekend intra semester is possible for students who failed in any subjects can re-register and learn.
Fall (June to November) and Winter (December to April) semester is here at VIT.. May and June, two summer semesters are available for failed students to re-register the courses again and attend. It is like a crash course for students who failed in the Fall semester.
Q: How many credits they need to earn for a B.Tech Program?
A: 160 credits for B.Tech Program
70 credits for 2 year M.Tech Program
220 credits for 5 year M.Tech Program
84 credits for MBA Program
248/252 credits for BA/BBA LLB
Q: Is there any timeline for classes?
A: In VIT Chennai, the timeline is planning to extend till 07:30 P.M. like VIT, Vellore campus. During the slot time, we expect faculties to be present.
Q: How many Internal Assessments per semester?
A: Two - Written Internal Assessments / semester for B.Tech Program
Three - Non-written Internal Assessments / semester for B.Tech Program
One - Written Internal Assessments / semester for 2 year - M.Tech Program
Q: How many theory / lab papers for faculty per semester?
A: Irrespective of any position / grade, all faculties are assigned 2 theory and 2 lab, unless the faculty has additional responsibility

L - Lecture hours / week (50 min) - 1 Credit (For 2 credits - 100 mins)
T - Tutorial hours / week (50 min)
P - Practical hours / week (100 min) - 1 Credit
J - Project hours / week (4 hrs) - 1 Credit
C - Credits for the course
Note: (For law course, slight changes might appear) Maximum - 5 credits are only possible.

Q: What about the Prerequisite?
A: Only if he finishes the prerequisite course, he can attend the upcoming course.

Q: What are class timings?
A: Timings are generally from 08:00 to 05:00 P.M. If the classes are scheduled evening, then you can come late and log 8.5 hours and finish the slot.
Q: Is summer semesters compulsory for all faculties to handle?
A: School will decide on the faculty to handle to the summer semesters

ReplyDeleteTo be frank, I getting jealous on the students because they are really so blessed and lucky to be in VIT. The reasons are many; first is the flexible curriculum. I thank the professor, his detailed explanation puts you at the top sir.
ReplyDeleteThe concept of flexible credit system is a nice idea in VIT. students feel free to register for any course he/she is willing to take. Major and Minor degree concept is superb idea in engineering. I heard this major and minor only in MBA. but in VIT, i am also hearing in engineering. students gets more benefits about his degree and career in VIT. Finally, the points explained and focused by Dean academics was interesting. Your sessions always attract the audience. Thank you very much sir.
