Proctoring : A case study

Several questions about a proctor
are discussed by the speaker.
2.
There are different types of
proctees with whom we are going to interact on a daily basis.
3.
First case study is about a first
year student making a mess during her course registration. There are few
positive approaches discussed by the speaker to handle such types of unwanted
situations a proctor may come across.
4.
Second case study is regarding a girl
complaining about self-consciousness (like everyone watching her). But the
proctor made a mistake by ignoring this complaint. Because this is a
psychological problem, then the proctor should have taken the help of a
professional psychologist to solve this type of problem.

Third case study is regarding a boy from
Kota, Rajasthan and very well in his studies. In the middle of his semester
suddenly he lost his interest in studies and irregular in classes. There were
some family reasons (like his parents were not allowing him to continue violin
classes). He also missed his CAT1. This is also a kind of psychological problem
to be properly handled by a proctor.

Another case study is regarding a
PG student harassed by four boys. In this case what steps should be taken as
there is no proctor for PG students. They need to approach the program chair or
student welfare office.

In the fourth case study is
regarding delivery of pizzas and KFC chicken in the girls restroom after class
hour.

Fifth case study is regarding
proctees caught in a compromising situation and faculty have misunderstood. So
how to handle such types of situations. One solution should be the faculty
should take both of them to student counsellor for violating the rule for
public display of affection.
9.
Sixth case study is regarding the
proctees caught in a compromised situation by a security guard but both
proctees are saying the guard is lying. Then later the parent of a student who
is an influential person interferes and blames the guard. So how to tackle this
situation? One solution may be we can develop a trust with the parents.

Seventh case study is regarding a
group of proctees who never come to proctors and they come only when they need
you. We handle them by repeated interactions and talking several thing beyond
studies.

Eighth case study is regarding a
proctor is the only son, always absent minded in class but performs well in
exams.

Ninth case study is regarding a
student caught filming around the campus for a short film, it may contain some
negative messages. After several investigations it is found he is regularly
absent in classes and the proctor is unaware about that.
13.
In the tenth case study the
proctor argues why should he or she come and meet the proctor even if there is
no issue. So the proctor makes them understand the importance of the proctoring
system.
14.
In eleventh case study the proctor
says he/she is a late entry and missed orientation program and nobody informed
to meet proctor. So it is best to tell them the need for extra patience for
them to meet proctors.
15.
In the twelfth case study proctor
has taken mobile from the next room student and switched off for three days and
when asked he says it was done for fun. This type of psychological problem must
be handled carefully by proctors and extra care needed to handle such a type of
proctees.
16.
In the thirteenth case study a
student by mistake kept open her gmail account another boy used this account
for doing some unwanted task.
17.
In the last case study a girl lost
her expensive mobile and reported it and 3 days passed. Four of her own hostel
mates did this because she came from a different background.
Thank you madam for explaining such difficult situations we may face with regards to our proctees. Appart from teaching, research and all the administrative work, proctoring is one of the most sensitive issue which require patience and our ability to listen.
